Completed and consecrated under the Blood Moon Eclipse March 13th 2025. Anointed with hellebore extract. This talisman was made from a zinc alloy and measures 1.5 x 2 inches. The chain is 27 inches long.

Once a beautiful mortal, cursed by the goddess Athena after being violated by the god Poseidon, Medusa has become a popular champion for those fighting against the patriarchy. According to Hesiod, Medusa was the daughter of divine parents, the sea-god Phorcys and his sister Ceto. Medusa also had two immortal sisters, a quality that would have benefitted her in hindsight. Although her story doesn’t end well, I don’t look at Medusa as a victim. Her curse became a source of power, and she was a force to be reckoned with. She is a great example of monstrous femininity, and the power and freedom that comes with embracing it. Many people resonate with the story and spirit of Medusa and call upon her as an ally for standing against injustice and oppression.

Reverse side: Algol - Eye of Medusa

We can call upon and connect with the spirit of Medusa by working with the celestial bodies that are associated with her, the fixed star Algol and Asteroid 149. The fixed star Aglol, is known as Beta Persei, the Demon Star and in Arabic as Ra’s al Ghul and can be found in the Caput Medusæ or head of Medusa which is part of the constellation of Perseus. Perseus is one of the forty-eight ancient constellations listed by Ptolemy in the 2nd century CE. It is located beneath the constellation Cassiopeia and is best seen in the fall and winter, but it is far enough north that is can be seen all year round. Algol is one of the fifteen Behenian fixed stars used in ritual magic. In astrology it is considered the unluckiest and most malefic of stars, but magically it can be employed to bring success, increase charisma and personal influence, protect against witchcraft and other malefic forces. Agrippa associates the star Algol with diamond, hellebore and mugwort.
