Fennel is an herb in the carrot family with a taste and smell similar to anise or licorice. Various cultures around the world use fennel in food and traditional medicine to aid with digestion. What we know as fennel “seed” is actually a dry fruit with smaller seeds inside. Fennel is associated with both Dionysus, whose thyrsus was made from a giant fennel stalk and a pinecone, and Prometheus, who in some versions of the myth steals fire from the gods with a fennel stalk. Fennel is deeply protective and can clear out negative energy in your environment or within yourself. Fennel also brings you the strength to follow your dreams. You can use fennel in tea, baths, and sachets, or add it to your food to nurture your courage.
