Cinquefoil is a common perennial herb with five leaflets and small, yellow flowers with five petals, which is where the name five-finger grass comes from. It tends to grow in unusual areas like roadsides and waste areas and is native to eastern and Central America. Cinquefoil has strong protective qualities, particularly against theft, making it a wonderful herb to add to protection sachets and spells, both to keep on yourself or to place in your car. You may also hang it near your front door or bed for added protection. If you happen to find a cinquefoil plant with seven leaves instead of five, place it under your pillow to dream of your future lover, whereas placing a five-leaf sprig of cinquefoil under your pillow will stimulate prophetic dreams. Cinquefoil can be burned as an incense to banish negativity or to aid in meditation and can be added to bath teas for an added boost of purification and hex breaking.
