The trees are native to Australia, where historically, they have been used as firewood, timber, and healing medicines. Eucalyptus globulus is the most common species used in aromatherapy. Historically, Eucalyptus was worn or kept near the bed of the sick, to prevent colds, respiratory ailments, and promote overall healing. Eucalyptus leaves can be added to a sachet bag, placed in your shoes, or hung around the home for added protection. It also makes a great addition to herbal incense blends or teas for purification. Eucalyptus can also help to encourage spiritual awakening, whether using the oil to anoint candles, steeping the herb in a tea or making a tincture. For physical cleansing, add 3 drops of Eucalyptus oil to ½ cup of salt. This mixture can be added to a bath or hot water for energetic cleansing. Diffusing the oil or burning the herb and inhaling may aid in increasing psychic dreams and averting nightmares, as well as promote restful sleep.
