California poppy is a flowering plant in the poppy family that is native to North America. It is a very relaxing, soothing, and dreamy plant to work with. Since it has similar energies to its cousin Papaver somniferum, it can often be used in workings that call for opium poppy when none is available. California poppy has been used in traditional medicine for sleep and relaxation, but it does not contain the same alkaloids as opium poppies, and thus is safe and legal to use. It can be added to a dream pillow or drunk in a tea before bed to promote restful, rejuvenating sleep while working with your dreams. Poppy has very ancient associations with death as well as sleep and can be used in spells or incense when visiting the underworld or working with the spirits of the dead.
